DNC: confusión en torno al roll call

Leah Daughtry, una de las organizadoras de la Convención, ha declarado al Rocky Mountain News que habrá roll call vote completo.

(...) Convention committee CEO Leah D. Daughtry said the roll call will take place as it has in previous conventions, despite speculations that a compromise between Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton might result in a departure from the usual process.

"The roll call is guided by the rules of the party," Daughtry said at this morning's convention press briefing. "It will proceed just as the rules dictate. Every state and every delegate will have the opportunity to vote. Everyone will be represented. Everyone will have their votes counted." (...)

(...) A Democratic Party official, speaking on background, said this afternoon would begin with a nominating speech for Hillary Clinton, followed by two seconding speeches. Then, Colorado Senator Ken Salazar will nominate Barack Obama, followed by three seconding speeches.

State tally sheets will be due by 4:00 p.m., Mountain Time (6 p.m., Eastern Time).

"Once the nominating speeches are concluded, the vote tally sheets will be collected by the Office of the Secretary," the official said. "We will then begin the Roll Call of the States and the delegation chair or his or her designee will announce the totals for each candidate."

Options discussed yesterday — including a shortened roll call — would require a motion to suspend the convention's regular rules, which doesn't seem currently to be in the offing. (...)

(...) With the convention balloting just hours away, delegates still were waiting to hear which states would participate in the roll call before it was cut off in unanimous support for Obama. The abbreviated vote was the result of a deal between Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton so that some of her backers could express their support without dragging out a divided process. (...)
